Wood End - The Original

Wood End
Wood End was a U-shaped 009 scale layout that built over a couple of years from 1999 and was exhibited widely in the south of England. The main feature of the 57" x 30" layout was the point-to-point operation - the trains running from one station to another without leaving the scene or running into a storage yard. The other notable characteristic was the almost exclusive use of cardboard for the buildings; laid in individual blocks to represent stone walling. The scenery was paper towels laid over card formers and covered with ground-foam scatter material.

The rolling stock was mainly adapted from readily available plastic and whitemetal kits painted in subdued tones. It was featured in Railway Modeller in 2000 and won the Reinier Hendriksen Award for freelance modelling at ExpoNG the same year.

After attending a large number of events it was withdrawn from the exhibition circuit  due to baseboard damage which was deemed too troublesome to repair. It was sold in 2004, now resides in Yorkshire after passing through the hands of several owners, has been substantially altered and is still exhibited on occasion.
